Lionel Messi added yet another gong to his haul for the last year on Monday 11 January. Messi beat Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar to the Ballon D’Or, presented at a ceremony in FIFA Zurich headquarters.
“Obviously I am very happy to be here and delighted to win this award but as always, the most important thing is the collective, the team. It is difficult to pick out one moment from what has been an extraordinary year for Barca. The whole year has been wonderful,” Messi said to the website Goal.
The award is voted on by fellow professionals, and this was a record fifth win for the Argentinian, who has been locked in a battle for the trophy with Ronaldo for the last 6 years.
