As usually happens when Mark Zuckerberg shares something online, a post from Sunday made by the Facebook CEO about his plans for 2016 drew thousands of responses.
“I spend most of my time with the engineers to achieve new things, but doing something by yourself is something else, this year I will try to learn new things outside my work,” Zuckerberg’s posts said.
“Every year, I take on a personal challenge to learn new things and grow outside my work at Facebook. My challenges in recent years have been to read two books every month, learn Mandarin and meet a new person every day.”
One comment in particular among the thousands posted by Zuckerberg’s followers stood out to the social network boss. It was from a lady named Darlene Loretto.
“Keep telling my granddaughters to date the nerd in school, he may turn out to be a Mark Zuckerberg! Thanks for FB, I’ve reconnected with family and many old friends and classmates.”
What made Loretto’s comment go viral was the fact that Zuckerberg replied with a message of female empowerment.
“Even better would be to encourage them to *be* the nerd in their school so they can be the next successful inventor!”
On Monday, Loretta shared her own status in response:
“OMG I made BUZZFEED. On the thread there are many saying same thing but, I do encourage them to do well, I’ve done everything in my life MYSELF, my children’s dad died at a very young age and I did it all. Starting 2 businesses. I said it once to them in jest and NEVER did I think anyone would even see this, let alone get the attention it has gotten.”
