On this day in 1915 Mary Mallon began almost 30 years in total isolation. Mallon was not a criminal; rather she was the first recorded asymptomatic carrier of the typhoid virus, and in her career as a cook in New York is thought to have infected at least 51 people with typhoid, three of whom died. She is better known as Typhoid Mary.

 

Happy 53rd birthday to Quentin Tarantino, director of Pulp Fiction and most recently The Hateful Eight. He shares his birthday with singer Maria Carey, who turns 46 today.

 

Today is anniversary of the death of Huzaima bint Nasser in 1935, wife of King Faisal I of Iraq. She is buried in the Royal Mausoleum in Adhamiyah, Baghdad.
