Barcelona Winning Streak Halted By Villarreal
Leicester maintain 5 point lead in English Premier League
Real Madrid closed the gap on the top two in La Liga this weekend, beating Sevilla 4-0. Barcelona could only manage a draw away to Villarreal, ending a twelve game winning streak. Yalla’s Barca fan has taken the news hard, demanding a new defence. The Catalans will face Real Madrid next, having not lost in 39 games. Atlético Madrid failed to capitalise, and now sit nine points behind in second place, having lost at Sporting de Gijón, who desperately needed the points at the wrong end of the table.
Gary Neville’s Valencia was beaten 2-0 at home by Celta de Vigo, fuelling rumours that the former Manchester United defender will leave his position at the end of the season. Espanyol beat Athletic Bilbao, while Granada CF and Rayo Vallencano played out a 2-2 draw near the foot of the league. Las Palmas look increasingly safe after a victory away at Real Sociedad, but Levante remained rooted to the bottom, losing to Deportivo de La Coruña. Real Betis lost at home to Málaga.
In England in the meantime, leaders Leicester marched on with a 1-0 win at Crystal Palace. Spurs keep up the chase though, with a 3-0 thrashing of Bournemouth – Harry Kane’s double making the case for him to lead the line in Euro 2016. Arsenal’s win at Everton has the Yalla Gooner looking to the future and the young guns showed promise. The Yalla Sunderland fan however was disappointed to see the six game winning streak against rivals Newcastle come to an end, with a 1-1 draw at St James Park. He was also gutted to see fellow relegation contenders Norwich someone win at West Brom. Manchester United beat neighbours Manchester City 1-0 in the weekend’s other big derby.
Yalla’s Liverpool fan couldn’t bring himself to comment on the 3-2 loss at Southampton. Chelsea couldn’t take full advantage, only managing a draw at home to West Ham. In the final two games, Aston Villa surprised no one by limping to a 1-0 defeat at Swansea, and Stoke travelled to Watford to register a 2-1 win.
