European Champions League Is Back
Yalla looks ahead to tonight’s action in Portugal and France
The first leg of the round of 16 European Champions League kicks off this evening, with Benfica hosting Zenit St Petersburg and Chelsea travelling to Paris St Germain.
In Portugal, Benfica have just had an eleven game winning streak ended by Porto in the Primeira Liga, losing 2-1 on Friday. They sit second in the table, and welcome a Zenit side that hasn’t played since a draw in the Russian Premier League on 4 December. Zenit manager Andre Villas-Boas has ensured his squad are in good condition after the winter break, with training camps in Qatar, Portugal and Spain.
Yalla predicts a 2-1 win for Benfica.
In Tuesday’s other game, French Ligue 1 leaders Paris St Germain host Chelsea, the current English Premier League champions enduring a difficult season. However, the London team has rallied under the management of Gus Hiddink, with Costa especially rekindling the form of last season. The 5-1 win over Newcastle at the weekend was the perfect preparation for this tie, although they travel without the injured John Terry and Pato, and banned Nemanja Matic. PSG welcome back Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva, who were rested for this weekend’s goals draw with Lille. PSG are a staggering 24 points clear at the top of Ligue 1.
Yalla can’t split the teams and thinks Chelsea will leave France with a point in a 1-1 draw.
