Iraq under 23 Side Reach Knockout Stage of Asian Federation Championship
One more game to play in group stage
Iraq’s Under 23 team have qualified for the knockout stages of the 2016 Asian Federation U23 Championship, with a 2-0 win over Yemen last Wednesday and Saturday’s 3-2 victory against Uzbekistan. Tomorrow’s game against South Korea at the Grand Hamad Stadium in Doha is a dead rubber, as both teams have 6 points in the four team group.
Iraq will face Jordan, the United Arab Emirates or Australia in the quarter-finals of the Qatari tournament. To have any chance of going on to the Olympics in Rio this summer, the Lions of Mesopotamia must progress to the semi-finals at least. With three berths available for this summer’s competition, the third place play-off holds significance for a change.
